Our Mission
Our mission is to honor the memory of Jon Castaneda by providing opportunities for students to pursue their passions in sports, culinary arts, and music. We believe that every student deserves the chance to explore and develop their interests, regardless of financial constraints. By offering scholarships and covering participation costs, we aim to make extracurricular activities more accessible to students in need.
Jon Castañeda was born October 30, 1991 in Bridgeport, CT to Leonardo and Rosario Castañeda. The youngest of 4 children, Jon was the little brother of the family. He quickly became everyone’s little brother as his personality captured the hearts of all.
He enjoyed sports, a good movie, music and cooking- which is what has inspired us to start a foundation that helps carry on his passions and provide these opportunities to those who would not otherwise have the chance. We realize that not everyone is afforded the luxury of pursuing their interests due to many factors such as finances or accessibility, so with the Jon Castañeda Foundation we hope to bring the youth back into their communities.
Although Jon was taken from us so young, his passion for living each day to the fullest should be carried on so we hope he gives you some inspiration.
Awarded Scholarships
Jonathan Law High School $1000 Scholarship
We are thrilled to announce that the Jon Castañeda Foundation has awarded the Jon Castaneda Award to our first recipient at Jonathan Law High School during their Senior Awards Night on May 20, 2024. Congratulations to the recipient!
Platt Technical High School $500 Scholarship
Congratulations to Cooper D’Amico, the recipient of the first Jon Castaneda Foundation Scholarship at Platt Technical High School in Milford, Connecticut on June 7, 2024. He has graduated from the Precision Machining Technology program, congratulations to Cooper!
